Travel Diary: Florence

Esta hermosa
ciudad pertenece a la famosa región Toscana italiana, de la cual es
centro histórico y artístico, nosotras la visitamos este verano y la verdad es
que para unas amantes del arte es un sueño, hermosos monumentos, arte por
doquier, hermosos atardeceres, comer rico y paseos de lujo. La verdad es que
hay una Florencia para todo tipo de viajero: Mochilero, gourmet, cosmopolita…
en fin para todos.
Cada rincón de
ésta ciudad esconde belleza en esencia, un lugar lleno de historia y arte es lo
que se vive es lo que respiras, no te acabas de maravillar, está llena de encanto,
de obras maestras de arte, los hermosos y coloridos mármoles de sus iglesias,
en fin toda su obra arquitectónica renacentista.
La verdad es que
siempre está llena de turistas, les comento que nuestro vuelo estaba destinado
a aterrizar en el aeropuerto Américo Vespucio de Florencia pero por problemas
de viento fuimos desviados hasta Pisa y fuimos transportadas en autobús hasta
Florencia, en ese momento dijimos: “bueno al menos disfrutaremos de la vista”,
pero nuca fue así…. El punto es que finalmente llegamos a nuestro destino,
nuestro hotel quedaba justo al frente de la estación de trenes. ¡Perfecto! Esa
misma tarde nos fuimos a caminar y a disfrutar de la ciudad.
Lo primero que
hicimos fue irnos a la Plaza del Duomo, se requiere de tiempo para admirar
todos los detalles de la Catedral Santa
Maria dei Fiori, disfrutar de sus hermoso mármoles blancos, verdes y rojos, la
torre del campanario, y la hermosa cúpula de Brunelleschi la más grande
construida en ladrillo. Perderse caminando por las callecitas que la circundan,
tomar las calles Cerratini y Borgo de San Lorenzo y llegar a la Basílica de San
Lorenzo que alberga obras de arte en su interior majestuoso. Otro encanto es
que está rodeada de cafés donde puedes sentarte simplemente a observar.
Una parada
imperdible: La Galería de La Academia y admirar la imponente estatua del David
de Miguel Ángel y muchísimas obras de arte más; también la galería de los
Uffizi.
Otra visita
obligatoria es a La Santa Croce donde encontrarás los sepulcros de célebres
personalidades como Galileo, Miguel Angel o Machiavelo.
Una de las cosas
que más nos gustaron fue subir hasta Fiesole y disfrutar de la hermosa
panorámica de la ciudad, caminar y disfrutar de la naturaleza, su Teatro Romano
o su Duomo.
Nos resultó super
agradable caminar por sus callecitas y encontrarnos con el mercado de San
Lorenzo. En Florencia son famosos los artículos de cuero de la Maremma
confeccionados generalmente a mano, el área entre la Toscana y el Lacio es
considerada la región ganadera con sus vacas de cuernos muy largos. Visitar las
tiendas y el mercado y encontrar bellezas de chaquetas, carteras, bolsos y
billeteras, definitivamente enamoradas.
Recomendamos
probar bocados autóctonos y vinos de la región.
La Basílica Santa
María Novella nos quedaba prácticamente al doblar de la esquina, erigida por
los dominicos en las “afueras” es hoy en día una de las obras maestras de la
ciudad, alberga tesoros en su interior.
Subimos en
autobús a la Plaza de Miguel Angel (Piazzale Michelangelo) desde donde se
disfrutan unas vistas hermosas de Florencia, nosotras nos quedamos
boquiabiertas, la estatua del David es una réplica, pero las vistas y el
paisaje natural disfrutando de un gelato vale la pena.
Una noche
visitamos La Fontana del Porcellino, dicen que si le pones una moneda en la
boca y al caer desaparece bajo los pies de la fuente tendrás buena suerte.
Caminar de noche
por sus calles fue realmente un placer, llegar a la Plaza de la Señoría y ver
la cantidad de obras de arte que se encuentran allí es impresionante, cuando
llegas a la Piazza della Signoria es como si volvieras a la Florencia
Renacentista, tienes la sensación de estar dentro de siglos de historia.
Si dispones de
más de dos días puedes visitar otras ciudades cercanas, nosotras nos fuimos a
Pisa y Génova, Florencia, definitivamente recomendada.

This beautiful city
belongs to the famous Italian Tuscan region, it is the historical and artistic
center of Tuscany, we were there this summer and the truth is that this city is
a dream for art lovers, beautiful monuments, art everywhere, beautiful sunsets,
good food and luxurious walks. There is a Florence for all types of traveler:
backpacker, gourmet, cosmopolitan.... for everyone.
Every corner of
this city hides beauty in essence, a place full of history and art is what you
live is what you breathe, you can’t get enough of its charm, art masterpieces,
the beautiful and colorful marbles of its churches, all the Renaissance
architectural work.
This city is
always full of tourists, let me tell you: Our flight was destined to land at
Amerigo Vespucci Airport in Florence but due to wind problems we were diverted
to Pisa and were transported by bus to Florence, at that time we said
"good at least we will enjoy the view", but it was not like that...
The point is that we finally arrived at our destination, the hotel was right in
front of the train station - perfect! That same afternoon we went for a walk
and enjoyed the city.
The first thing
we did was go to Piazza del Duomo, it takes time to admire all the details of
the Cathedral Santa Maria dei Fiori enjoy its beautiful white, green and red
marbles, bell tower, and the beautiful Brunelleschi's dome, the largest built
in brick. Get lost walking along the little streets that surround it, take the
streets Cerratini and Borgo de San Lorenzo and reach the Basilica of San Lorenzo,
in its majestic interior you can find many works of art. Another charm is that
it is surrounded by cafes where you can simply sit and people watch.
An unforgettable
stop: The Gallery of The Academy and admire the imposing statue of David by
Michelangelo and many more works of art; also the Gallery of The Uffizi.
Ponte Vecchio is
beautiful at any time of the day, at dawn, during the day or at sunset, called
old in 1,218 when they build another one and it stop being the only bridge
crossing the Arno River, in its upper floor you can find the Vasari Corridor
from 1,565 used by the Medicis and their households.
Another
obligatory visit is to the Santa Croce Church where you will find the tombs of
famous personalities like Galileo, Miguel Angel or Machiavelo.
We found it super
nice to walk along its narrow streets to find the San Lorenzo market. Florence
is famous for its leather articles of the Maremma usually made by hand, the
area between Tuscany and Lazio is considered the cattle region with its very
long horned cows. Visit the shops and the market and find beautiful jackets,
wallets, handbags, definitely in love.
We recommend
trying local food and wines from the region.
The Basilica
Santa Maria Novella was practically around the corner from our hotel, erected
by the Dominicans priests in the "outskirts", is today one of the
masterpieces of the city, it houses many treasures inside.
We went by bus to
Michelangelo Square (Piazzale Michelangelo) from where you can enjoy a
beautiful view of Florence, we were shocked, the statue of the David is a
replica, but the view and the natural landscape while enjoying a gelato is
worth the trip.
One night we
visited La Fontana del Porcellino, they say that if you put a coin in the mouth
of the pig and when it falls disappears under the feet of the fountain you
will have good luck.
One of the things
we liked the most was climbing up to Fiesole and enjoying the beautiful
panorama of the city, walking and enjoying nature, its Roman Theater or its
Duomo.
Walking at night
through the streets of Florence was really a pleasure, getting to Piazza della
Signoria and seeing the amount of artwork found there is breathtaking, when you
arrive at the Piazza della Signoria it is as if you were returning to
Renaissance Florence, you have the feeling of being within centuries of
history.
If you have more
than two days you can visit other cities nearby, we went to Pisa and Genoa,
Florence definitely is recommended.
