Hi, happy Earth Day! Today is the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day, a day that aims to plant the seeds of environmental activism in all of us. On this day we renew our commitment to protect our Earth year-round.

Earth Day theme this year is "Invest in Our Planet": this is the time to change the business climate, the political climate, and how we take action on climate. We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably) to preserve and protect our health, our families, our livelihoods, our happiness, and our survival. We're all in this together, businesses, governments, and citizens alike should be accounted for and accountable.*

This year in honour of Earth Day we want to invite you to invest your time, energy, money, and creativity into growing a pollinators garden. Pollinators play an important role not only in helping plants make their fruit and seeds, which helps many plant species reproduce but also in supporting our own food system. Over the last few decades, many pollinator populations, including bees, have seen a dramatic decline due to pesticide use and loss of food and nesting habitat.

So we want to help you (and ourselves) be part of the solution. For that, we've made these illustrated botanical postcards of 12 flowers that attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. We've also made seeds envelopes (which you can also gift to others with seeds from your own garden to spread the love) to collect seeds for your garden.

¡Hola, feliz Día de la Tierra! Hoy es el 52 aniversario del Día de la Tierra, un día que tiene como objetivo plantar las semillas del activismo ambiental en todos/as nosotros/as. En este día renovamos nuestro compromiso de proteger nuestra Tierra durante todo el año.

El tema del Día de la Tierra de este año es "Invertir en nuestro planeta": este es el momento de cambiar el clima empresarial, el clima político y cómo tomamos medidas sobre el clima. Necesitamos actuar (audazmente), innovar (ampliamente) e implementar (equitativamente) para preservar y proteger nuestra salud, nuestras familias, nuestros medios de subsistencia, nuestra felicidad y nuestra supervivencia. Estamos todos/as juntos/as en esto, las empresas, los gobiernos y los/as ciudadanos/as por igual debemos ser representados/as y responsables.*

Este año, en honor al Día de la Tierra, queremos invitarte a invertir tu tiempo, energía, dinero y creatividad en cultivar un jardín de polinizadores. Los polinizadores juegan un papel importante no solo ayudando a las plantas a producir sus frutos y semillas, lo que ayuda a que muchas especies de plantas se reproduzcan, sino también apoyando nuestro propio sistema alimentario. En las últimas décadas, muchas poblaciones de polinizadores, incluidas las abejas, han experimentado una disminución drástica debido al uso de pesticidas y la pérdida de alimento y hábitat de anidación.

Por eso, queremos ayudarte (y a nosotras mismas) a ser parte de la solución. Happy and creative World Creativity & Innovation Day! We're sending all our creative vibes your way.

For this year's last post in honour of Creativity Week, we're sharing with you these creativity affirmations cards to boost your creative confidence and inspire you to create.

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you probably know that we reiterate constantly the fact that everyone has the capability for creative thinking and everyone can be or learn to be creative. And we do it because we've noticed that oftentimes people lack creative confidence to the point where they don't even consider themselves to be creative.

As Tom and David Kelley say in their book Creative Confidence: “Creativity, far from requiring rare gifts and skills, depends on what you believe you can do with the talents and skills you already have.” Creativity is a conscious choice we must make, to be creative you have to believe that you can imagine and create great things and you have to be intentional about it. Nobody is stopping you from being creative but yourself.

In our previous blog post where we shared 9 TED-Ed Lessons About or Related to Creativity, we included a short animated video titled "3 Tips to Boost Your Confidence" by TED-Ed and Kozmonot Animation Studio. According to this lesson, three of the things that affect our confidence and the things over which we have control are the choices we make, the risks we take, and how we think about and respond to challenges and setbacks.

We actually have the power to cultivate our own confidence by following these three tips:

1- A quick fix: Picturing ourselves being successful before starting a difficult task, giving ourselves a pep talk or striking a powerful pose can give us an immediate confidence boost in the short term.

2- Believing in our ability to improve: Adopting a growth mindset, thinking our abilities can improve and seeing challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, will give us a long-term boost in confidence. The way we think about our abilities and talents matters because it can influence how we act when faced with setbacks. Neuroscience supports the growth mindset, the connections in our brains do get stronger and grow with study and practice.

3- Practicing failure: Studies show that those who fail regularly and keep trying anyway are better equipped to respond to challenges and setbacks in a constructive way. They learn how to try different strategies, ask others for advice, and persevere.

So, we made these creativity affirmation cards to help you adopt a growth mindset and believe in your creative skills and ability to improve, boosting your creative confidence. Keep them in your creative space, your office or inside your journal and/or agenda (we also made a couple of envelopes for this), and look at them and read them often so you imprint them on your mind.

Y lo hacemos porque hemos notado que muchas veces las personas carecen de confianza creativa hasta el punto en que ni siquiera se consideran creativas.

Como Tom y David Kelley dicen en su libro Confianza Creativa: "La creatividad, lejos de requerir regalos y habilidades especiales, depende de lo que creas que puedes hacer con los talentos y las habilidades que ya tienes". La creatividad es una elección consciente que debemos hacer, para ser creativo/a, debes creer que puedes imaginar y crear grandes cosas y debes ser intencional al respecto. Nadie te está deteniendo de ser creativo/a, sino tú mismo/a.

En nuestra publicación anterior de blog, donde compartimos 9 lecciones de TED-Ed sobre o relacionadas con la creatividad, incluimos un video corto animado titulado "3 consejos para aumentar tu confianza" por TED-Ed y el estudio de animación Kozmonot. Según esta lección, tres de las cosas que afectan nuestra confianza y las cosas sobre las que tenemos control son: las elecciones que tomamos, los riesgos que tomamos, y cómo pensamos sobre y respondemos a los desafíos y contratiempos.

En realidad, tenemos el poder de cultivar nuestra propia confianza siguiendo estos tres consejos:

1- Una solución rápida: imaginarnos tener éxito antes de comenzar una tarea difícil, darnos una charla motivadora a nosotros/as mismos/as o asumir una postura poderosa puede darnos un aumento de confianza inmediato a corto plazo.

2- Creer en nuestra capacidad para mejorar: Adoptar una mentalidad de crecimiento, pensar que nuestras habilidades pueden mejorar y ver los desafíos como oportunidades para aprender y crecer, nos dará un aumento de confianza a largo plazo. La forma en que pensamos en nuestras habilidades y talentos importa porque puede influir en cómo actuamos cuando nos enfrentamos a contratiempos. La neurociencia apoya la mentalidad de crecimiento, las conexiones en nuestros cerebros se hacen más fuertes y crecen con el estudio y la práctica.

3- Practicar equivocarse: los estudios muestran que aquellos/as que fallan regularmente y siguen intentando de todos modos están mejor equipados/as para responder a los desafíos y contratiempos de una manera constructiva. Aprenden cómo probar diferentes estrategias, a pedir consejos a otros, y a perseverar.

Entonces, hicimos estas tarjetas de afirmaciones de creatividad para ayudarte a adoptar una mentalidad de crecimiento y creer en tus habilidades creativas y tu capacidad para mejorar, y a su vez, aumentar tu confianza creativa. Mantenlas en tu espacio creativo, tu oficina o dentro de tu diario y/o agenda (también hicimos un par de sobres para esto), y míralas y léelas a menudo para que las grabes en tu mente.

9 TED-Ed Lessons About or Related to Creativity

Hi, in 2018 we shared 11 Inspiring TED Talks About and/or Related to Creativity, today for Creativity Week we're sharing with you our favourite TED-Ed lessons about or related to creativity.

You've probably already watched one or more TED talks, but if you don't know what TED is you can learn about it in our previous article. In short, it is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. It started as a conference where Technology, Entertainment, and Design (TED) converged but today covers almost all topics and in multiple languages.

TED-Ed is TED’s youth and education initiative. Its mission is to spark and celebrate the ideas of teachers and students around the world. They support learning by producing a growing library of original animated videos, providing an international platform for teachers to create their own interactive lessons, and helping curious students around the globe bring TED to their schools. TED-Ed is basically democratising education by taking a lesson taught by a teacher in a classroom which only reaches a small group of students and taking it into a worldwide classroom where anyone can learn, and we love it.

TED-Ed's signature content is animations, which consist of short, award-winning animated videos about ideas that spark the curiosity of learners everywhere. Every TED-Ed Animation represents a creative collaboration between experts. Such experts may include TED Speakers and TED Fellows, as well as educators, designers, animators, screenwriters, directors, science writers, historians, journalists and editors. These original animated videos, paired with questions and resources, make up what they refer to as TED-Ed Lessons.

This is a list of TED-Ed Lessons about or related to creativity and imagination, ranging from topics such as cognition, thinking and learning, problem-solving, psychology, and life sciences to visual arts. We're sure that by watching these short animations you will learn something new and that they will ignite your curiosity and inspire you to keep learning. Enjoy!

Hola, en 2018 compartimos 11 charlas TED inspiradoras sobre o relacionadas a la creatividad. Hoy, para la Semana de la Creatividad, compartimos contigo nuestras lecciones TED-Ed favoritas sobre la creatividad o relacionadas con ella.

Probablemente ya hayas visto una o más charlas TED, pero si no sabes qué es TED, puedes aprender sobre ello en nuestro artículo anterior. En definitiva, es una organización sin fines de lucro dedicada a la difusión de ideas, normalmente en forma de charlas breves y contundentes. Comenzó como una conferencia donde convergen la Tecnología, el Entretenimiento y el Diseño (TED), pero hoy cubre casi todos los temas y en varios idiomas.

TED-Ed es la iniciativa de educación y juventud de TED. Su misión es despertar y celebrar las ideas de profesores y estudiantes de todo el mundo. Apoyan el aprendizaje mediante la producción de una biblioteca cada vez mayor de vídeos animados originales, proporcionando una plataforma internacional para que los maestros creen sus propias lecciones interactivas y ayudando a los estudiantes curiosos de todo el mundo a llevar TED a sus escuelas. TED-Ed básicamente está democratizando la educación tomando una lección impartida por un/a maestro/a en un salón de clases que solo llega a un pequeño grupo de estudiantes y llevándola a un salón de clases mundial donde cualquiera puede aprender, y nos encanta.
