Hello friends, Val here, I recently traveled to NYC (we love New York) and even with freezing temperatures and snow this Caribbean girl strolled through the city that never sleeps and is full of surprises. Here I propose a list of places and things you can not miss in a visit to this fabulous city, and I'm sharing some photos of my journey.

New york city is a big place with a lot to do. The smell, the people, the action, the food, the art, the walks…. So much to offer. One of the things I love the most about this city is that in any metro station or a park you can find artists that delight you with their music, dance and joy. Just going for a walk in New York is an adventure.

This is my list of musts:

1. Central Park

Do a carriage ride thru the park, or if you are a fan of the Beatles like us, you can go to Strawberry Fields or if you're a book lover you can visit the statue of Alice In Wonderland. There's plenty to see and do in these 843 green acres in the heart of Manhattan: The Central Park Zoo, Gapstow Bridge, Ladies Pavillion, The Lake, Balto Statue, Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, the Great Lawn, Minton Tile Ceiling at Bethesda Terrace, The Loch, Belvedere Castle, Cherry Hill, The Mall and Literary Walk, the Conservatory Garden, the Carousel, Kerbs Boathouse, Shakespeare Garden...and the list goes on. Or you can just go sit and relax, or have a picnic.

2. Empire State Building

It is located in Midtown Manhattan and has two observatories, located on floors 86 and 102, from which you can enjoy the unforgettable 360° views of New York and around the city. My recommendation is to go at night and avoid the long lines and you will enjoy a beautiful view of the city at night.

3. Statue of Liberty

If you're in the Big Apple for the first time it is required to at least take the ferry and see the statue from afar, or you can take the ferries that take you to there and explore Liberty and Ellis islands, but I recommend not to spend more than an hour here because there is not much to do apart from enjoy the view and take pictures.

4. Highline Park

A lush park built on an abandoned elevated railroad track in the old Meatpacking District.  Repurposing of the railway into an urban park of 2.33 km began construction in 2006, with the first phase opening in 2009, the second phase opening in 2011 and the third and final phase officially opened to the public on September 21, 2014. The park features lush horticulture, artworks, seasonal food vendors, community programming, and unique views of the Hudson River and New York City skyline. The High Line runs between Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street, between 10th and 12th Avenues.

5. See a Broadway Musical

This is an experience you have to live at least once. This time I got to see Finding Neverland starring none other than Matthew Morrison and Kelsey Grammer, a magical and beautiful musical. You can probably guess that I cried my eyes out.

6. Seaglass Carousel Battery Park

SeaGlass is not  a traditional carousel.  Each of the 30 massive fiberglass fish was custom designed and fabricated for SeaGlass by Show Canada. Internally illuminated with color-changing LED light fixtures and outfitted with integrated audio systems, each fish is designed to recall the bioluminescence found deep in the ocean.

The show’s underwater atmosphere is created through LED color-changing lighting combined with “water effect” light projectors hung from a custom-designed helical light ring. I confess that despite of being expensive for a 2 minute ride it is beautiful and I enjoyed it, I felt like a child again.

7. Audubon Mural Project, Harlem

The Audubon Mural Project is a collaboration between the National Audubon Society and the Gitler and Gallery to create murals of climate-threatened birds throughout John James Audubon’s old Manhattan neighborhood. The murals are visually stunning, so if you like art and nature you should go and visit “Where the birds meet art… after dark.”

8. MET, MOMA, GUGGENHEIM

Visit at least one of the iconic art museums that the Big Apple has to offer. My favorite is the MET, I always visit it.

The Museum of Modern Art's renowned collection of modern and contemporary art includes Vincent van Gogh's "The Starry Night" (my favorite painting) and Andy Warhol's "Gold Marilyn Monroe," along with works by Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, Cindy Sherman, Elizabeth Murray, and many other great artists of our time.

At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City's most visited museum and attraction, you will experience over 5,000 years of art from around the world. Represented in the permanent collection are works of art from classical antiquity and ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures from nearly all the european masters, and an extensive collection of american and modern art. The Met also maintains extensive holdings of African, Asian, Oceanic, Byzantine, and Islamic art. 



The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is An internationally renowned art museum and one of the most significant architectural icons of the 20th century, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Guggenheim Museum is at once a vital cultural center, an educational institution, and the heart of an international network of museums. Visitors can experience special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, lectures by artists and critics, performances and film screenings, classes for teens and adults, and daily tours of the galleries led by museum educators. Founded on a collection of early modern masterpieces, the Guggenheim Museum today is an ever-growing institution devoted to the art of the 20th century and beyond.

Hola amig@s, aquí Val, recientemente viajé a NYC (nosotras amamos Nueva York) y aunque con temperaturas congelantes y nieve, esta caribeña se paseó por toda la ciudad que nunca duerme y está llena de sorpresas. Aquí les propongo una lista de los lugares y cosas que no pueden dejar de hacer en una visita a esta fabulosa ciudad, y les comparto algunas fotos de mi recorrido.

Nueva York es una ciudad grande con un montón de cosas para hacer. Su olor, la gente, la acción, la comida, el arte, las caminatas… mucho que ofrecer. Una de las cosas que más amo de esta ciudad es que en cualquier estación del metro o en un parque encuentras artistas que te deleitan con su música, su baile y su alegría. Simplemente salir a caminar en Nueva York es una aventura.

Esta es mi lista de imperdibles:

1. Central Park

Haz un paseo en coche a través del parque, o si eres fan de los Beatles como nosotras, no puedes dejar de ir a Strawberry Fields, y si amas a Alice In Wonderland querrás ver la maravillosa estatua que se encuentra en este parque. Hay mucho que ver y hacer en estos 843 acres verdes en el corazón de Manhattan: El Zoológico de Central Park, El Puente Gapstow, El Pabellón de Las Damas, El Lago, La Estatua de Balto, Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, el Great Lawn, el Techo de Mosaicos Minton en La Terraza Bethesda, el Castillo de Belvedere, Cherry Hill, El Mall y Paseo Literario, el Jardín Conservatorio, El Carrusel, Kerbs Boathouse,  Jardín de Shakespeare... y la lista continúa. O simplemente puedes ir a sentarte y relajarte, o hacer un picnic.

2. Edificio Empire State

Está ubicado en el centro del Midtown de Manhattan y dispone de dos observatorios, situados en los pisos 86 y 102, desde los que podrás disfrutar de las inolvidables vistas de 360° de Nueva York y de los alrededores de la ciudad. Mi recomendación es ir de noche así evitarás las largas filas y disfrutarás una hermosa vista de las luces de la ciudad.

3. Estatua de La Libertad

Si estás en la Gran Manzana por primera vez es obligatorio por lo menos tomar el ferry y ver la estatua de lejos, o tomar los ferries que te llevan a las islas y explorar tanto Liberty como Ellis, pero no les recomiendo pasar más de una hora aquí porque no hay mucho que hacer aparte de disfrutar de la vista y hacerse fotos.

4. Highline Park

Un exuberante parque construido sobre una pista elevada ferrocarril abandonado en el antiguo Distrito de Empacadoras de Carne. La reformulación de la vía férrea en un parque urbano de 2,33 km comenzó en 2006, con la apertura de la primera fase en 2009, la apertura de la segunda fase en 2011 y la tercera y última fase se abrió oficialmente al público el 21 de septiembre de 2014. El parque ofrece una exuberante horticultura, obras de arte, vendedores de alimentos de temporada, programación de la comunidad y magníficas vistas del Río Hudson y del horizonte de la ciudad de Nueva York. El parque Highline se extiende entre la calle Gansevoort a la calle 34ava Oeste, entre las avenidas 10ma y 12ava.

5. Ver un Musical de Broadway

Esta es una experiencia que hay que vivir al menos una vez. En esta ocasión me tocó ver Finding Neverland nada más y nada menos que con las actuaciones de Matthew Morrison y Kelsey Grammer, un musical mágico y hermoso. Les cuento que fui un mar de lágrimas.

6. Seaglass Carousel Battery Park

Sea Glass no es un carrusel tradicional. Cada uno de los 30 peces de fibra de vidrio fue diseñado a medida y fabricados para SeaGlass por Show Canadá. Internamente iluminados con luces LED que cambian de color y equipado con sistemas de audio integrados, cada pescado está diseñado para recordar la bioluminiscencia encontrada en las profundidades del océano.

El ambiente bajo el agua de la serie se crea a través de la iluminación LED que cambia de color combinado con "efecto de sonido del agua" proyectores de luz colgados de un anillo de luz helicoidal de diseño personalizado. Les confieso de que a pesar de ser caro para una vueltita de 2 minutos es hermoso y lo disfruté, me sentí como una niña de nuevo.

7. Audubon Mural Project en Harlem

El Proyecto de Murales Audubon es una colaboración entre la Sociedad Nacional Audubon y the Gitler and Gallery para crear murales de aves amenazadas por el clima a lo largo del antiguo barrio de Manhattan de John James Audubon. Los murales son visualmente impresionantes, así que si te gusta el arte y la naturaleza debes ir a visitar este lugar  "Donde las aves se encuentran con el arte... en la oscuridad."

8. MET, MOMA, GUGGENHEIM

Visita al menos uno de los icónicos museos de arte que nos ofrece la Gran Manzana. Mi favorito es el MET, siempre lo visito.

La famosa colección de arte moderno y contemporáneo del Museo de Arte Moderno incluye "La Noche Estrellada" (mi pintura favorita) de Vincent van Gogh  y  "Gold Marilyn Monroe" de Andy Warhol, junto a obras de Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, Cindy Sherman, Elizabeth Murray, y muchos otros grandes artistas de nuestro tiempo.



En El Museo Metropolitano de Arte, el museo y atracción más visitado de la ciudad de Nueva York,  experimentarás más de 5,000 años de arte de todo el mundo. Representados en la colección permanente hay obras de arte de la antigüedad clásica y el antiguo Egipto, pinturas y esculturas de casi todos los maestros europeos, y una extensa colección de obras estadounidenses. El Met también mantiene extensas propiedades de África, Asia, Oceanía, Bizantino, y Arte Islámico.


El Museo Solomon R. Guggenheim es un museo de arte de renombre internacional y uno de los iconos arquitectónicos más importantes del siglo 20, diseñado por Frank Lloyd Wright. El Museo Guggenheim es a la vez un centro vital cultural, una institución educativa, y el corazón de una red internacional de museos. Los visitantes pueden experimentar exposiciones de arte moderno y contemporáneo, conferencias de artistas y críticos, performances y proyecciones de películas, clases para adolescentes y adultos, y visitas diarias de las galerías dirigidas por educadores del museo. Fundada en una colección de obras maestras modernas tempranas, el Museo Guggenheim de hoy es una institución en constante crecimiento dedicada al arte del siglo 20 y más allá.
