The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to evaluate and reflect on our lives, where we are right now and where we want to go. In previous years we shared our 5 Tips To Help You Achieve Your Goals For a Better Year and our Vision Board Printables, this year we wanted to go further into helping you reach your goals by making this planner + journal to aid you not only in planning and organizing your day to day but also in creating the life of your dreams.

We want to inspire you to live a meaningful and adventurous life, to be not only a Dreamer but a Dream Builder. We want to help you turn your dreams into goals and your goals into reality, to live by design, not by default. We want this planner to be your companion in the pursuit of the life of your dreams, to inspire you to slow down, be present in every moment, and to find joy and beauty in the small things in your everyday so you can enjoy the journey as much as the destination. 

There’s research that shows that we enhance our ability to comprehend and learn when we write things down, when we use a digital calendar we're only recording things not comprehending them. The purpose of this printable planner, besides recording your schedule, is to help you comprehend, think and reflect on your goals and dreams.

January, the month when we all make resolutions and start setting goals for the year ahead, but by the time February comes along we've all forgotten about the things we were supposed to accomplish this year. Make this the year when you finally make the changes you've always been talking about, with the help of these five tips.

First of all setting goals and knowing what you want to accomplish is a good thing, but you have to remain rooted in the present and not get too fixated in the future, be mindful, appreciate and be grateful for the things that you have and that are happening right now. 

To accomplish your goals make sure to:

1. Start with why

Apply Simon Sinek's Golden Circle. To be able to accomplish what you set out to do, you have to know why you're doing it in the first place. You have to be intentional in your actions, if you don't have a reason for doing something then why spend your time doing it? Make sure that what you want to accomplish is something that matters to you, that has a purpose. To learn more about The Golden Circle idea we recommend reading Simon Sinek's book, Start With Why.

2. Set SMART goals

SMART is a mnemonic acronym associated with the process of setting objectives first coined by Peter Druker in his book The Practice of Management. SMART objectives are:

Specific: Define exactly what you want to achieve and be as specific as possible. Instead of saying I'm going to lose weight, say I'm going to lose 15 pounds.

Measurable: Make sure your goals are finite, so you know when you have accomplished them and can measure your success.

Attainable: Set realistic goals, things for which you have the means and capacity to achieve.

Relevant: This goes back to No. 1, make sure your goals make sense in the rest of your life and are something you really want to focus on.

Time-bound: Set a deadline, your goals must have an end date. Deadlines motivate you to keep going, while with an open-ended goal you'll always find an excuse to postpone it till tomorrow (which rarely happens).

3. Make a plan and stick to it

Break your goals down into actionable tasks that you can complete one at a time, and write them down. These tasks are the steps you'll take daily, weekly or monthly to reach your goals. You can download our free printable daily planner to help you stick to your plans, by joining our newsletter.

4. Keep a visual track of your progress

There's something about putting pen to paper that makes things more real. Checking or crossing out your actionable tasks as you complete them on your planner or calendar (or even on your phone), and seeing them every day will help you keep motivated and motivation is the key to achieving your goals. 

5. Celebrate your milestones

Every time to finish a task that takes you closer to your end goal, take time to enjoy it, give yourself a pat on the back, and thank those who helped you get there. Also, reflect on what you learned along the way and what worked for you and what didn't, this will help you to efficiently keep going.

Enero, el mes en que todos hacemos resoluciones y empezamos a fijar metas para el año que empieza, pero para el momento en que llega el mes de febrero, todos hemos olvidado las cosas que se suponía que debíamos lograr este año. Haz este el año en el que finalmente hagas los cambios de los que siempre has estado hablando, con la ayuda de estos cinco consejos.

En primer lugar, fijar metas y saber lo que quieres lograr es algo bueno, pero tienes que permanecer arraigado en el presente y no concentrarte demasiado en el futuro, permanece atento y sé concienzudo, aprecia y agradece por las cosas que tienes y que están sucediendo ahora mismo.

Para lograr tus objetivos, asegúrate de:

1. Comenzar con el porqué

Aplica el Círculo Dorado de Simon Sinek. Para poder lograr lo que te propones hacer, debes saber porqué lo estás haciendo en primer lugar. Tienes que ser intencional en tus acciones, si no tienes una razón para hacer algo, entonces ¿por qué gastar tu tiempo haciéndolo? Asegúrate de que lo que quieres lograr es algo que te importa, que tiene un propósito. 2. Establecer metas SMART (inteligentes)

SMART es un acrónimo mnemónico asociado con el proceso de establecimiento de objetivos acuñado por primera vez por Peter Druker en su libro La Práctica del Management. Los objetivos SMART son:

Specific (Específico): Define exactamente lo que deseas lograr y sé lo más específico posible. En lugar de decir voy perder peso, di voy a perder 15 libras.

Medible: Asegúrate de que tus objetivos son finitos, así sabrás cuándo los hayas logrado y podrás medir tu éxito.

Alcanzable: Establece metas realistas, cosas para las cuales tienes los medios y la capacidad de lograr.

Relevante: Esto se remonta al No. 1, asegúrate de que tus metas tienen sentido en el resto de tu vida y son algo en lo que realmente quieres centrarte.

Tiempo límite: Establece un plazo, tus objetivos deben tener una fecha de finalización. Los plazos te motivan a seguir adelante, mientras que con un objetivo abierto siempre encontrarás una excusa para posponerlo hasta mañana (lo que rara vez ocurre).

3. Hacer un plan y atenerte a él

Separa tus metas en tareas ejecutables que puedes completar una a la vez, y anótalas. Estas tareas son los pasos que tomarás diaria, semanal o mensualmente para alcanzar tus metas. 4. Dar seguimiento visual a tu progreso

Hay algo acerca de poner la pluma en el papel que hace las cosas más reales. Tachar tus tareas a medida que las completas o ejecutas en tu planificador o calendario (o incluso en tu teléfono), y verlas todos los días te ayudará a mantenerte motivado y la motivación es la clave para lograr tus metas.

5. Celebrar tus logros

Cada vez que termines una tarea que te lleve más cerca de tu objetivo final, tómate un tiempo para disfrutarlo, date una palmadita en la espalda y agradece a quienes te ayudaron a llegar hasta ahí. También reflexiona sobre lo que aprendiste en el camino y lo que funcionó para tí y lo que no, esto te ayudará a seguir eficientemente hacia adelante.

2016 is almost here and is time to start planning and setting goals for the year ahead. No matter how many apps and organizational gadgets we have at our disposal we prefer to put pen to paper. We find that actually writing down what needs to be done and checking finished tasks help us keep motivated and on track.
