The 70's patchwork trend has been back for a couple of seasons and this spring it has gone even bigger and bolder by way of microprints and patterns. This quirky trend is very appealing because of its versatility, you can incorporate it in your wardrobe in a subtle way by wearing a patterned patchwork tote, clutch or a scarf, instead of going out in head to toe patchwork, but of course if you want to stand out there's nothing stopping you from wearing a bold patterned patchwork dress.

This trend will lend a bohemian vibe to your outfits. Shop some of our favorite patterned patchwork pieces:

Woodlucker is a visual partnership and collaborative work space in Minneapolis, founded by husband and wife artists Ann Wood and Dean Lucker 25 year ago for the exploration of figurative mixed media constructions and mechanical sculpture.

Ann produces beautifully detailed boxes, mixed media paintings and textile and paper pieces. Dean creates wonderful figures, both mechanical and carved from clay or wood. Their collaborative work combines a love for illustrated paper art and forgotten histories into engaging objects full of sentiment and longing.

All of their work is either hand carved or formed with electric tools out of basswood. The mechanics are hand built from brass and aluminum based on detailed drawings by Dean. They both paint, draw and carve wood. They have both won multiple accolades.

When we talk about ruffles and frills we think of the dresses we wore when we were five years old, but this traditionally childlike style have gotten an elegant makeover during the last couple of seasons, and is now more wearable than ever. Decorating collars, hemlines and forming cascading tiers, ruffles provide a romantic, subtle and feminine detail to outfits. Many pieces combine ruffles with cold or off the shoulder silhouettes that are also on trend, making ruffles even more stylish.

The trick to pulling off this trend and look like an adult in the process, is to make the ruffles the focal point of your outfit, and make sure they're dramatic and structured, also ruffles act as their own accessory, so there's no need for jewellery, or wear jewellery to a minimum.

We're not into almost any of the 90's fashion revivals, but we can totally get behind the ruffle trend! Shop some of our favourite ruffled pieces:

We've all dealt with a creative block at one time or another, or times when we've felt totally uninspired, and thought (over dramatically) that we would never have a good idea or do great work again. Today with the internet and sites like Pinterest we are constantly overexposed to a lot of visual inspiration, and it is easy to become overwhelmed or discouraged when, for example, you have an idea and you explore it and research it on the internet, only to find that thousands of people had already the same idea as you, so you think it's been done already and that you don't have anything new to bring to the table.

Luckily, there are many different ways you can find inspiration again and boost your creativity and productivity. This list of 21 ways to keep the creative juices flowing is what has worked for us over the years, and we're sure they'll work for you too, try implementing at least one a day, and remember to always keep an open mind and a positive attitude, and who knows? you may come up with a million-dollar idea!

In honour of World Creativity & Innovation Day, which is today, you can download this list as a poster for free, to keep on your workspace as a daily reminder. Click the size you want to download 8.5" x 11" / 8.5" x 14".

1. Be mindful: Be present in the moment and experience life as it is happening, be more aware of your time and how you use it, pay attention to what's going on around you, learn to accept what you cannot change, be grateful and count your blessings. Being more intentional and doing things with purpose will help you in your creative endeavours.

2. Carry a pen and a notebook everywhere: Create a creativity notebook to jot down your ideas the moment they pop into your head. Creativity and inspiration can strike at any time (frequently at the most inconvenient of times), and believe us never trust your memory if you don't write it down the minute you thought of it you will forget it.

3. Disconnect: Put the mouse down and slowly step away from the computer, and put down your phone as well. Look for inspiration in unexpected places, for example, ride a bike, take the bus, go to the zoo... A creative block is a sign that it is time to try a different approach.

4. Break your routine: Routines can help you be more productive, but sometimes even small changes, like taking a different route to work, can fire up your brain's neurons maximizing its effectiveness, and allowing you to make unexpected and sometimes inspired connections.

5. Read books: Read to hone your skills, learn new things, to build your creative confidence (start with these 13 Creative Books for Everyone). But not only read self-help and didactic books, but read also fiction and lots of it, in our honest opinion there is nothing that lets imagination run wild like reading a greatly written story, and Einstein said himself "Imagination is more important than knowledge", and this is especially true when it comes to creativity. Check out our Seasons of Books blog section, there you'll find books of different genres.

6. Take risks: Shake things up and force yourself to step out of your comfort zone by seeing and doing things in ways you've never tried before.

7. Reach out to people: Find your tribe and if you don't find it, create it by reaching out to like-minded, encouraging and supportive friends and strangers, they will challenge you intellectually and creatively, and help you see things from a different perspective and be a sounding board.

8. Make mistakes: Creativity thrives on experimentation, exploration, trial, and error. Allow yourself to make mistakes, mistakes mean that you are trying, and offer you the opportunity to explore beyond where you thought you were going. Remember that we learn from our mistakes.

9. Listen to new music: It is scientifically proven that music shifts brain waves, improves your mood, inspires you, relaxes you and increases your focus.

10. Take breaks: Taking breaks from work can make you more productive and focused, they help shift your thinking from its habitual patterns, and create the space for energy and creativity to grow and optimize your workflow.

11. Learn a new skill: Learning new skills boosts your confidence and challenges your brain, when you're struggling with inspiration trying new things can be incredibly helpful. Take an in-person class, join an online class (start with these 9 Online Classes To Jumpstart Your Creativity) or find a new hobby.

12. Break the rules: Like Picasso said first learn the rules, then break them. Before you can create something new and innovative, you have to know what is already out there so you can move in a different direction or make changes to existing ideas, and let's face it some rules are just meant to be broken.

13. Practice: Practice makes progress. By practising regularly you will become better at what you do, and Maya Angelou was right, the more you use your creativity, the more you have. Like your muscles creativity needs to be exercised.

14. Collaborate: Creativity thrives on diversity, sharing and collaborating. Work with one or more people who do things differently than you, who complement you and you'll learn from each other. Working as a team can generate more innovative ideas than you can come up with on your own.

15. Attend events: Attending creative conferences and talks will help you learn new things, new ways of doing things and new tools, it will help you expand your vision, and break down barriers and you'll meet like-minded and interesting people.

16. Travel: Travel will broaden your horizons and boost your creativity by changing your thinking. You don't have to travel far, go outside, go for a long walk, visit museums and art galleries, explore your own city, or change your surroundings, inspiration comes from the things with which we surround ourselves.

17. Work on passion projects: To get your mind off work and to avoid stress, take time to work on projects that have meaning to you, just for the sake of making, for the process, this will help you unwind, satisfy the need to work with your hands, and it'll give you personal satisfaction, a sense of ownership and creative freedom.

18. Get lots of rest: Just like creativity needs to be exercised, it also needs rest. Avoid mental exhaustion and refresh your brain by getting your 8 hours of sleep.

19. Finish something: Follow through on an idea, don't waste time and energy-consuming content, look for inspiration, pinning, etc. By realizing an idea that's been in your mind for a long time till the end, you'll open up space in your brain for new ideas.

20. Be Authentic: As cliché as it may sound, in our opinion, this is one of the most important things if not the most important, to create truly innovative and original work. Don't follow trends, and don't do things just because everyone else is doing them, remember what we said in number 1, be intentional, and be sure that you're doing something because it interests you or because you like it, not because others are doing it. When you try to do the things that others are doing the way others are doing them, you are actually limiting yourself. Do your own thing your own way and you'll free your imagination to limitless possibilities.

21. Be curious: Don't take anything at face value, question things, always try to look at the bigger picture, and do research. Curiosity is in our opinion the most important thing to doing creative work when you follow your curiosity and are willing to explore the world around you, you can find inspiration everywhere.

We hope this post is useful to you and that it inspires you. Now, how do you keep your creative juices flowing? What other ways to keep the creative juices flowing do you recommend?

If you download and use our poster remember to share it with your family and friends and to share photos by tagging us with @holalalilu and #lalilucrafts so we can see them.
